Once dairy farms traversed the bountiful Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. As costs began to rise, however, local leaders researched potential replacement crop income and ultimately decided to pursue growing lavender, a promising alternative.
The film’s story helped raise money for conservation and preservation, and saved several farms such as Angel Lavender Farms, so that they might continue as agricultural producers in a new era of organic and sustainable farming.
What transpired afterward includes a growing sense of renewal and prosperity. Real people, like the Angels, happy new stewards over this true Lavender Heaven.
Renewal of community and commerce
Lavender has bloomed into a new local identity ever since. And ever since the community committed to their sustainable lavender farming, an annual Lavender Festival celebrates farms just like the Angel’s. Tens of thousands of tourists and families from surrounding cities and towns pour into the community for the well appreciated agri-tourism Lavender events, replete with music and picnics and local products. As blossoming events and retail continue to spin-off from this exciting new farming direction, the community now enjoys a renewed economy, spirit and energy.
